I have had a lot of mobile phones (Nokia, Samsung, I-mobile) before I bought iphone5s. I bought iphone5s in Bangkok about two years ago when I was a master degree student. It cost me about 25,000 baht, it was expensive. There were two factors that influenced me to decide about buying a new phone. Firstly, I believe that apple products always have a higher quality than other brands. I do not want to buy a new phone every month. I thing, If i buy iphone5s, I do not have to buy a new one at least three years. Secondly, iphone5s applications are useful. I can do whatever i want on my phone. For example sending e-mail, calling my family, listening music and watching movie. I have used iphone5s for two years and it has never had any problems.     

My iPhone

            First off all, I have got iPhone5 since last years. When I bought it, I aware of usefulness and practicality the most. This is because I wanted to use as long as possible. Secondly, I would look at price that no more than $500 because I had to save my money to buy other things. The last feature is that the colour because I prefer using black colour than others. It is comfortable for looking after and cleaning.

MY PHONE

I checked a phone’s pixel figure at first when I bought my current mobile phone because I like taking pictures and I prefer to high picture quality. I also considered about size because I often enjoy watching videos on Internet, but I have poor eyesight, so big screen is better for me. The brand and color are not so important for me. If I don’t like my phone’s color, I will buy a phone cover which is my favorite color or design. I think useful features are important factor, however it is okay I can use only e-mail, phone call, SNS and camera.

My Love For The iPhone

 First of all, my favorite brand is Apple which produced the iPhone series. What I like about this brand is that they create the phone into many sizes and colors, making this phone suitable for both males and females. Another thing which makes me always purchase from Apple is there are different amounts of gigabytes available, such as 16gb, 32gb, 64gb and 128gb, so you can pick which one is suitable for your needs. The Apple brand creates Laptops, iPads and computers as well as the smartphones, which they have a special service that you can save something, such as photos in one of your Apple devices and it will then be saved to all of your other Apple products. The iPhone can last you for years if you look after it well. This is why my phone will always be the Apple iPhone!

MOBILE PHONE

The usage of Mobile phone has been spread worldwide. In the current highly competitive cellphone market, a lot of manufacturer of smartphone for the sake of attracting customers to buy their products, producing it more intelligently and friendly.

As for me, there are some elements that affect me which brands I should buy. Then, operating system takes the top position in term of deciding what kinds of phone I should buy. such as, I will never buy smartphone for Android. Next is appearance of phone. Also, I like discussing with my friends about the phones we recently use. So no mater who after using a smartphone , we usually eager to recommend it to each other and exchange felling of using our own cellphone.

My Mobile Phone

The phone I have got first time was not iPhone. Since the iPhones became popular, however, I desperately wanted to get one because it looked cool such as innovatory appearance and I thought touching the display is the easiest way to write an email, a message and so on. Therefore I bought an iPhone4S even though I used the first phone at the time. As I use the iphone4S, I realized that it is more useful than the others. In this way, I have tendency to choose iPhone series. Now I am using an iPhone5C and I have been using it for one and a half year. It is time to think about a new phone. Of cause, I will select one of the iPhone series. So what influence me to buy mobile phone is appearance and function.

 

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is an American guy who just has below-average intelligence. He was born in a small town of Alabama. When he was a primary school student, in order to escape insult from other students in school, he listened to a girl’s advice to run when he suffered from them again. Interestingly, just because of running, he was granted special admission to University. When he graduated from his University, the government recruited some new soldiers also involved Forrest Gump at the same time. He made two friends in the army. One of them was called Bones, while another one was Doyle who was a military officer.

However, he could not forget Jenny Curran even if he fighting in the war. He wants to know that what happened to her. After the war ended, Forrest Gump received president Johnson’s interview as the hero. After that，he came back to his hometown where he was born. Meanwhile, he met Jenny again. Then he became a enterpriser whom did shrimping business. Fortunately，Forrest and Jenny had a child.

What I like best thing about this Fiction is the Forrest Gump’s spiritual touch. Forrest Gump experiences each historical period in which the world changes constantly. Whenever, wherever, regardless of other people in the same place, he did not want to change in his own style. He is simple and is good.

MY CHOICE

When it comes to choosing which device to buy, I always have some particular factors to help me decide which one is the best for me. The most important is that it has useful practical features that I need for everyday use. The size of it comes next, I think it’s helpful to have a pocket size phone, and of course the price must be affordable. The idea that most of my friends or family have the same or that is fashionable has never been a factor for me because in the end it should suite my lifestyle and choice.

I bought my phone more than two years ago. It's unavoidable that advertisement is one of the main reasons for I bought the phone. In addition, most of my friends had been using this brand's phone before I bought it, so I got a lot of good feedback of the phone from my friends. Therefore, I bought it and I have been using it until now, so it's a good choice.

Animal Testing

          Animal testing takes place in three main areas biomedical research, product safety, and especially in the animal laboratories around the world. It has been happening in the past until now.

          This book is about scientists, researchers, students, medical students, and doctors.

          There are two both sides in regard to using animal testing. Firstly, the main argument for animal testing is that while research find that the animals can feel pain, many scientists use pain-relieving medicine during experiments so that the animals feel as little as possible. Secondly, responsible scientists care a great deal about the animals they test by using as few animals as possible and testing as humanely as possible. Another important is that scientists use animals to test medications and chemicals that are very important in medical a profession.

          On the other hand, the argument against animal testing is that many of drugs that were developed through animal testing should test without the use of animals. Moreover, animals have the same right as humans to live and not suffer. Thirdly, animals are not exactly the same as humans and may not respond in the same ways of treatments.

          Personally, I agree with both of sides, I think animals testing is necessary because it saves people’s lives. And also animals make good models for disease and treatments because they are the most similar to people when compare with other animals. However, I think that no matter how careful researchers are, animals can still feel pain and stress from being kept in cages and subjected to tests. In addition, scientists can use artificial human tissues and computer models instead of using animals.

It was interesting story. The mummy and Titanic gave me a sense of the romance. It is exciting if the mummy’s curse caused sinking. I know why grave robbers got sick and died because the pyramid was tightly closed, so inside air rot away gradually and the air affects our health.

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of Ram Mohammad Thomas and this story is set in modern India. The story begins in an interrogation room. Ram Mohammad Thomas answers all the questions correctly on a TV quiz show and wins a billion rupees, but Ram was suspected that he cheated in answers. The story takes us through the major events of Ram’s life.

One day, Ram and his friend Salim were taken on a day trip by a charity organization and they met a fortune-teller. The fortune-teller gave Ram an old one rupee coin. It was a lucky coin. Several months later, a big man came to the home, and adopted them. Actually, the man was a gangster, and the reason why he adopted then was to use them as a beggar to make some money, so they escaped from him. Ram managed to escape from the man and kept moving, and he lost his money, so he had to seek a job. He visits the Taj Mahal and he starts the job which is a tour guide. He met a girl at the Taj Mahal, and then they fell in love. However, she has to get married to a rich man to help her family. Ram tried to stop their marriage but in order to live happily with her, he had to prepare large amount of money for her family. Although it was very challenging situation, he decided to appear on TV quiz show.  

Although Ram is an uneducated street boy, I still think he is clever, daring and knows how to live comfortable in the slum. However, he is a bit dangerous because he killed a few men. This story describes his danger effectively and also his such a dangerous characteristic is showing the society of India. There are numerous poor orphans, and they are always facing several difficult situations such as poverty, poor surroundings, and bad people who scheme to make money with orphans. Children learn singing and they lose their legs, arms and eyeballs when they work as beggars. This is shocking news but employment of children is real thing which happens in India.

 

The thing I like is how Ram thinks about Japanese. He met Japanese tourists at the Taj Mahal. The tourists asked him to guide them, and they paid him 50 rupees with only five minutes work. Probably, he thinks Japanese would pay expensively for him. They dupe foreign tourists, particularly Japanese.     

Vikas Swarup was born in Allahabad in India. His first book, which was made into the film Slumdog Millionaire, took him only two months to write, but has now been published in forty-two different languages and made into a very successful film. He got the idea for Slumdog Millionaire after watching the popular TV show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? This programme is known as Quiz Millionaire in Japan. He thought that it would be interesting if an uneducated ‘street boy’ who would definitely be accused of cheating won the top prize.

 

As I said above this novel became a movie. Dev Patel is a boy who grown up in the real slums of Mumbai and he played the main character. It is a 2008 British film, and it was nominated for ten Academy Awards. There are some difference between the movie and the novel. The main character’s name is Jamal Malik, and he has an older brother, Salim. The story was also changed slightly. If you are interested in Slumdog Millionaire, I recommend you read the book and watch the movie. You will enjoy.

               Spider Man 

This story occured in New York in 2000s. The main actor is named Peter Parker who is just an ordinary guy.He has problems with money and girls, but he is Spider-man. He swings through the streets of New York and saves people from danger.Sometimes New Yorkers call him Spidey. He's falling love with MJ who is the other main actress, and she works in theater and her face is famous in New York. MJ had a difficult home life. Now she has left home and she's a strong woman. She has faced all her problems, except her relationship with Peter.
The story starts slowly, with details of how this ordinary guy faces his problems.And then,his best friend Harry thinks Spider man killed his father. His father died in a flight with Spider man at the time,but Harry doesn't know the truth and now he wants to kill Spider man. I really get into this story during Spider man fight with the people who wanted to kill he, and he shots webbing onto every building and protects people. Although Peter takes disaster for MJ,he falls in love with MJ, and Peter appeared in front of MJ when she faced disaster.
This is a novel, full of passion and a exciting plot.The best thing I like is that Peter falls in love with MJ. It is a romantic story.

Book review: Leaving Microsoft to Change the world

 

This book was written about John Wood who was a busy, successful man, working in an important, well-paid job for Microsoft in Australia. One day he went to Nepal for his vacation and he visited a school in small village. He knew a shocking truth there. About 70% of Nepalis can’t read because they don’t get enough education and the government doesn’t have enough money. The school had a beautiful library but there were few books for 450 students. This was really hit him. Nobody has done wrong. Poverty had caused the problem. This experience changed his life. After that he quit his big job and started working for children who weren’t able to get a good education. At first, his business, which was named ‘Room to Read’, was run by him and his father. They gathered books and donations as much as they could and sent them to Nepal. Finally, thanks to their effort, ‘Room to Read’ scored a great success.

This story is a real story. The main character, John Wood, is passionate about giving books to children and building schools in poor countries. His decision to quit his job in Microsoft must have been hard but he didn’t five up his dream. Not only this, he also broke up with his girlfriend and his best partner to do what he wanted. If I were him, I wouldn’t have chosen his option because working in a large company such as a Microsoft isn’t easy. Everybody wants to get such a job. Therefore I am absolutely proud of him. Moreover this story gives us encouragement to do what we want from the bottom of our hearts. If you read the book, you will try to realize your dream.

Food for Thought

 The name of the book is Food for Thought. It is a fiction book. The book was written by Pauline Francis and published by Penguin Readers in 2008. The name of the book makes me consider about food. But Food for Thought does not revolve around food, it is an idiom. It means something to ponder on or issues to be considered. Food for thought in this book is “whether GM crop trials are safe or not?”. GM crop is a plant that has a gene and has been modified by government and its scientists. The plant that scientists use for trial in this story is maize.

 

There are five main characters in this story. Their names are Joe, Anna, Kate, Dave and Jenny. Dave and Jenny are organic farm owners. Their farm is in Cornwall and near the GM crop farm. The form of English that the writer used to describe Dave and Jenny’s farm is brilliant. It was easy to imagine, and I made these images in my mind obviously. Joe is Dave and Jenny ‘s nephew. Joe was working on their farm during his holiday. Joe is  a positive person. The next person’s name is Anna. She is a visitor of Dave and Jenny's farm. She is from Stockholm and a student like Joe, however Anna is a beautiful girl but stubborn at the same time. She trashed the GM crops. She is such a GM crop protester. She strongly believes that the GM scientists are criminals and GM crops will change natural plants. The last main character, is Kate. Kate is a girl who’s her father owns the GM maize farm. Her parents decided to grow GM crops because they trust the government. They totally believe that GM crops are a good idea. Joe and Kate seem hostile but they are not, they are friends. Joe gets on well with Kate because both of them like to surf. Even if Joe is Dave and Jenny’s nephew, his opinions about GM crops are not strong, and he is not taking sides. He is neutral, and believes that GM crops will help poor countries. Farmers will get better quality crops, and cheaper crops because they will not need a lot of pesticides.

 

Anna plans to trash the GM maize crop on Kate’s farm with other protesters. This plan is a secret, however it’s a coincidence that Joe knows her secret and Joe promises with Anna that he will keep it a secret. Joe tries to stop her because it is a criminal intension and dangerous but she does not listen. She does not change her mind. There is nothing Joe can do, but to keep the promise, it is only way he can go. Eventually, Anna and other protesters trash the GM maize crop plantation. GM crop is gone. Kate gets angry with Joe because he did not let her know about Anna’s plan. And Kate says, everybody has the right to protest but nobody has the right to destroy other people’s crops. They do not have the right to break the law. Joe tries to say sorry to Kate. Finally, Kate forgives Joe and they become good friends again.

 

I like this book because it is an interesting story. It makes me want to know more information about GM crops. I asked myself“. Have I ever eaten GM crops?” “Have I ever wondered where food comes from?”. This book helps me realize more about food that I eat everyday. In my opinion, GM crops are not bad but we have to know how to use GM crops safely. The plot of this story is interesting, exciting and enjoyable. Food for thought is an excellent book that I could not put down when I started reading it. It was a compelling read.    

THE COLOMBIAN CONNECTION

Hi, my name is Rio. I read a book named The Colombian Connection. The story happens in two places New York and Colombia. The four main characters are a reporter called kay Duncan, NCD agents Frank and Andy Lopez, and a drug dealer known as Mr. Charlie.

The story is about a reporter who was in New York. She found in the newspaper a headline saying “Presidents War Against Drugs”. When she read it a lot of questions came to her mind, which intrigued her to write her own story about it. While she was looking for answers to her questions, a person who helped her to get the answers was killed. So she got more excited and determined to find the killers and most of all find out what Andy Lopez was involved in, and what got him killed.

The book really captured my attention. It’s the type of book that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I think the book also covers a serious topic because drug dealing is a big problem in the USA so this informs the readers about it in a short fiction novel.

The Lucky One

The Lucky One is a romantic fiction novel by the author Nicholas Sparks It was published in the United States of America in 2008 by Grand Central Publishing. The novel was made as a film in 2012

The story is about an USA marine Logan Thibault who returned from Iraq safely after he lost two of his friends in the war, he considered himself a lucky man. In the war he found a photograph of a beautiful young woman that made him believe it’s a lucky charm, but he thought someone might have dropped it during the war. After he came back home he decided to find her and thank her for keeping him safe. He searched for her until he found her, but when he saw her he couldn’t tell her the truth. So he started to work in the dog training kennel.

Beth is a single mother, who’s living with her grandmother “Nana” and her son “Ben”. She works as a primary school teacher and helping her grandmother to take care of a dog training kennel. Beth’s ex-husband, Keith Clayton has always disliked the idea that Beth can get involved in a romantic relationship. He has been threatening all the men that she has been dating. Logan and Beth fall in love. Logan also captured Nana’s and Ben’s hearts because of his braveness and kindness.  He was struggling with keeping his secret from them.

I enjoyed reading this book, and I found it inspiring exiting and powerful. I’m really into reading anything by Nicholas Sparks, I have read two of his novels “The Notebook” and “Safe Haven” and I enjoyed them both. I love how he described his characters in a beautifully detailed way that helps me imagine what they look like and what their personalities look like. The actions have been written with passionate heartfelt words. Even though the novel is written in chapters which sometimes confuse me, it was written clearly in easy language. I can define it as a page-turner. What I really liked about it was the main character ‘Logan’ and how he believed that a photograph saved his life. Beth is a strong brave character because she is an independent single mother that went through a lot in her life and still manage to handle it.
